Doug O'Neill

Doug was our original trainer when Owners Stable was formed, and remains one of the key leaders of our growth in this business.

Doug fell in love with horse racing at an early age after moving to Southern California from Michigan. After graduating from high school, he started working for Trainer Jude Feld as a hot walker. He then went on to work for Hector Palma, Richard Mandella, and Doug Peterson. These respected trainers helped to mold Doug into the trainer that he is today.

"I enjoy all facets of the game, from claiming to developing young horses." -Doug O'Neill

Doug has trained several notable horses including Sky Jack, Marino Marini, and recently Sharp Lisa and Breeder's Cup winner Stevie Wonderboy.

Armando Lage

Armando Lage

Armando relocated to Northern California in 1997 after training in So. California for a number of years after coming from Mexico City where his father was a long time trainer. Every since he has arrived up North, he can always be found in the top 10 of the trainer standings during the regular Golden Gate and Bay Meadows meets as well as the Fair Circuit during the Summertime.

He has always taken care of our horses that we send in to run up from So. California and we have now partnered with him on a few two-year olds that look very promising.

A trainer often known for dealing with problem horses, Lage quipped that "We talk in one side of the ear while covering the other in hopes that the horse will listen to instructions".

Armando Lage Facts: 2006

Shannon Hastings

Shannon Hastings

After the great care and training that Shannon provided for our good mare Aclevershadeofjade when she went down to Texas to finish 3rd in a Stakes last year, it was an easy choice to have him lead the charge for our Texas partnerships. Someone who has always been used to working hard since he played football back for Texas A& M, Shannon has a small string that makes the circuit between Retama in the Summer, Sam Houston in Fall and Winter, and at Lone Star in the Spring. Given a chance with the right stock, he excels with getting younger horses to run long and re-energizing the careers of older claimers.
